Eceabat and the Gallipoli Peninsula: For Memorial-Focused Visits
Eceabat, on the far side of the strait, is the closest place to stay for the memorials and monuments of the Gallipoli Peninsula. If your sole aim is a Gallipoli tour and you want to set out early, it can be a sensible choice. In return, the museums, bazaar and ferry pier in the city centre are no longer within walking distance, and every outing requires a car. So if you are coming to Çanakkale for history and culture, this area may wear you down. The deciding question is simple: is your priority the sea, or history and the city? For the sea, the coastal towns; for history, the centre.
Assos and Bozcaada: Lovely, but a Separate Holiday
The stone houses and ancient harbour of Assos, and the vineyards and streets of Bozcaada, are among Çanakkale's most talked-about destinations.
